Answers! Happy December First! New Hampshire Fall Foliage and Robert Frost!

Standard

Hello and Happy Saturday to you!

The answers below are from the Dec 1 post: Happy December First! New Hampshire Fall Foliage and Robert Frost!

Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening

Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Here are the answers!

1) Does he know whose woods these are?

He thinks he knows–this would mean that he is not 100% sure–if it is the man he is thinking of–his house is in the village.

2) Will the owner see him stopping? Why?

The owner will not seeing him stopping. The owner’s house is in the village and it is snowing and late, so the owner is probably at home.

3) How does the horse signify his/her question?

The horse signifies his/her question by giving his/her harness bells a shake!

4) How does he describe the woods?

They are lovely, dark and deep!

5) What are two possible interpretations of the last stanza?

1) He has a promise to be somewhere and has a long way to go before he reaches his destination.

2) The woods are inviting and represent choosing a different path than the one he is on–changing his life course and forgetting his responsibilities.  He decides not to change his life course and keep his many responsibilities and he has a lot to do before he dies.

Have a good one!

Sincerely,

Katie

It is not that I had a bad year; my year was good, it is just that I can see the finish line!

It is not that I am tired; I have energy, but I can see the finish line!

It is not that I didn’t accomplish anything; I accomplished much, but ahead of me I can see the finish line!

Have a good one!
